Billionaires Renounce Russian Citizenship

Two More Billionaires Just Renounce Russian Citizenship In Wake Of Ukraine War

The founders of the American IT company Veeam Software, Andrei Baronov and Ratmir Timashev, renounced Russian citizenship. Forbes writes about this.

Both businessmen were included in the list of “200 richest businessmen in Russia” from 2017 to 2021. According to the publication, they still have Cypriot citizenship; the businessmen themselves have not lived in Russia for a long time: Baronov – in Switzerland, Timashev – in the USA.

Baronov initiated renunciation of citizenship in April 2023. He announced this on his LinkedIn page. In the post, the businessman wrote that he was “deeply worried about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

“I don’t want to be a citizen of a country whose leaders are people who kidnap children, rape and rob civilians, and almost daily indiscriminately fire thousands of missiles killing innocent people,” Baronov said.

He also said he has donated millions of dollars to "reputable humanitarian organizations" to help refugees in Ukraine - and will continue to do so.

Earlier it was reported that seven more businessmen from the Forbes list were renouncing their Russian citizenship, including Timur Turlov, Yuri Milner, Oleg Tinkov and Ruben Vardanyan.
